FTP and FrontPage Extension Corruption

Using FTP can cause corruption to Microsoft FrontPage Extensions. Here are my findings about using FTP on a Microsoft FrontPage Extension-enabled site:

OK - No corruption
==============
Upload / Download log files
Upload / Download Scripts
Upload / Download .ZIP or similar files
Change permissions on scripts

Possible Corruption (I've not been able to tie this down; so these are
maybe)
==============
Upload .HTM(L) files and images
Modifying the .ht* files (on this one, if you have a backup of the related
file it should be safe to just restore it instead of the extensions).

Definite Corruption
===============
Upload anything to the _vti*.* directories
Making the following modifications to .htaccess:
  RedirectPermanent
  RewriteEngine
