The following are
answers to common questions in the
Microsoft FrontPage Client Newsgroup:
- Backup your system!
- Run the FrontPage Server

click on the "Uninstall" button to uninstall the server
extensions.
- Reboot your system.
- Run the FrontPage 97
installation (personally, I skipped using MS PWS).

- Uninstall FrontPage 97 Beta
using the My Computer, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
- Reboot the system to make
sure no FP DLL's were in use.
- Erase FP*.* from C:\WINDOWS
and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
NOTE: Please do a dir on FP*.* first to make sure you know
what you are deleting ;-) The files should be mostly
prefixed with FP20.
- Make sure to remove (if it
was not done in the installation) your Server\Conf directory
(usually located in FrontPage Webs\Server\Conf).
- Erase the FrontPage Program
Folder (most likely in Program Files\Microsoft FrontPage.
- Run RegClean or some time of
Registry Orphan Checker (I use the one in Remove It for
Windows 95 most often than not).
- Reboot the system.
- Check if you have
Frontpg.ini in your C:\WINDOWS directory; if you do have it,
delete it. Same with FPExplor.ini in C:\WINDOWS.
- Place your FrontPage 1.1
diskette #1 in your floppy drive (I found out the hard way
you don't have to reinstall the whole thing).
- Run the FrontPage 97
installation (personally, I skipped using MS PWS).
- When the hard drive location
fails to find your FrontPage 1.1 installed, use "Locate" to
tell it your floppy drive, and you can continue from there.
Install the upgrade version of
Microsoft FrontPage 98
- Uninstall the Microsoft
FrontPage 98 Beta from your machine.
- Reinstall either Microsoft
FrontPage 97 or Microsoft FrontPage 1.1.
- Install the upgrade version
of Microsoft FrontPage 98.
